Assorted Short Stories

Fabulous Things

A story about a single man who realizes he can’t buy happiness. It uses conventional storytelling and magical realism, in the end, to bring the story together. It was published in the online journal Fluent Ascension, but you have to get a back issue to read it.

Side Step Me

Side Step Me is a story about surviving the habits of constant corporate lay offs.

The main character has been discarded, fired (for having brown eyes) or dissolved in many ways, from the odd to sarcastic. During the harder moments, doctors prescribe pills – seemingly making life easier to cope with, until she finally starts her own cosmetics line and starts living her own life.

The Dog Sitter

Killing a couple for their multi-million dollar apartment is a very Manhattan thing to do. The Dog Sitter is told from the murder’s point of view. As he plots, tips doormen into submission and throws great parties for his neighbors, all for the perfect palace.

My CD Collection

Writing is a government sanctioned hobby in the future and My CD Collection is a letter from an inspired writer to his far away friend.  It’s a world of consolidated corporations and a Great President elected for life. In the end the main character is thrown in jail.

The power of words as literature is rediscovered through a Journal, data disks, and short stories in an attic. Style varies from Journal entry to letter and allows a glimpse into the future of style.

ClubLand

Written in a style to resonate euphoria, the story of possession is told in ClubLand. A specter inhabits the bodies of unexpecting people, allowing them to live their fantasies of murder, sex, drugs and techno music. Intoxicated by music, the possessed begin to kiss and let go of their former lives.

The Wanderer

A lawyer’s turbulent dream is told in The Wanderer. Debating the existence of his soul, he downs pills to help him sleep and dreams about his cut-throat nature, youth and God. Vivid imagery and stream of consciousness create a strong connection to his once partial lucidity.

The Ring

The Ring tells the story of Clark’s obsession with finding love, his love with the concept of love. His desire to find a rich young husband drives him to develop a relationship with the mythic Isaac (Ben’s pseudonym). A boy who’s built a fictional life for himself with information he's found online and in magazines.
